About
Parc Howard Museum first opened its doors in 1912. The Victorian building is a fine Italianate example of the 1880s and still retains many of its original features. Today, the museum has a wonderful collection of items that relate to the history of Llanelli. The museum also has the largest collection of Llanelly Pottery and a truly delightful art collection.
The Friends of Parc Howard Llanelli Museum organisation has been in existence since 1995 and was set up with the aim of raising interest in Llanelli’s past. We also aim to bring more people into Parc Howard Museum through talks and events, such as our popular Christmas Carols afternoon.
Our successful fundraising and other activities have allowed us to help the museum. We have helped save objects from Buckley's Brewery and purchased a Stepney Tyres sign and the 1896 Llanelli Eisteddfod chair.
The Friends of Parc Howard Llanelli Museum are delighted that improvements are being made to Parc Howard. We are one of the bodies consulted by the Parc Howard Collaboration Group (made up of Carmarthenshire County Council and Llanelli Town Council) about improvements to Parc Howard.
Portrait of Lady Stepney
Our successful fundraising activities have also allowed us to give a contribution of £3,750 towards the conservation of the museum’s portrait of Lady Euphemia Stepney. We also funded the purchase of two rare pieces of Llanelly Pottery; a little plate for serving cockles and a Colandine pattern egg cup. Being made for everyday use, very few egg cups like this one have survived! We were glad to save it for Llanelli.
